Passports
UNLV requires that all students participating in UNLV-sponsored study, exchange and research abroad programs travel with a valid passport. You cannot enter most countries without a valid passport. A passport is an official document issued by the government of a specific country to a citizen of that country for identification purposes. A U.S. passport for adults (over 18 years of age when the passport is issued) is valid for 10 years. Information on obtaining a U.S. passport (U.S. citizens) can be obtained from the U.S. Department of State. If you are not a U.S. citizen, contact the nearest embassy or consulate of the country from which you have citizenship. Other documentation, such as a birth certificate, may be used for entry into some countries. These documents may be difficult or impossible to replace outside of the U.S. if they are lost or stolen. UNLV strongly recommends that students obtain a valid passport for all international travel. Many countries require that your passport be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date you plan to complete your stay within that country. The wait to receive your passport after you have submitted your completed application is approximately 4 to 8 weeks. Students and travelers who will need a visa.
